We had a lot of fun researching, creating and constructing our Tudor homework projects! We
baked/cooked Tudor foods, we created Tudor houses, drew portraits, created fact-files, wrote
newspaper articles and discussed archaeological evidence from the Tudor period!
We were lucky enough to have a visit from Karen, a scientist who works at CEFAS. She taught us all about the work that CEFAS do as well as how to classify fish and marine species showing our recent learning in practical use. We were able to explore using microscopes, handle real bones and artefacts from the sea, try on fishing expedition gear, filter water, and measure fish species.
We were very fortunate to be able to speak to Father Padraig who came into our class to help us develop our understanding of Baptism. We had already looked at what Baptism was and had come up with some questions which we wanted to ask Father Padraig. It was great for us to hear from an expert who helped us understand the meaning, importance and symbolism of Baptism. We were even able to share our own experiences of Baptism.
On our residential trip this week we have spent time enjoying a number of activities including canoeing down the river, archery, raft building, ziplining, tower climbing, crate stacking and we also enjoyed a campfire one evening. As you can see from the photos we had an awesome time!
We took part in our own Tudor Courtroom drama. We chose the crimes and punishments from our research and compared the brutal and often extreme punishments to our own system today.
Say hello to our new Sports Leaders!
We had a great deal of fun learning about 'sgraffito' and creating our own pieces using oil pastels.
Year 6 have been having a lot of fun exploring our history using a timeline of key historical facts. We worked together to complete a giant timeline of history and then examined how topics we have previously covered (e.g. Anglo-Saxons) compared to our new topic, The Tudors.
We have been looking at classifying animals in science in Year 6. We enjoyed creating our own classification keys using a range of living things. We even got to draw on the tables!
We have started the Golden Mile in Year 6 and have enjoyed getting out of the classroom to run/jog/walk around the field. We have noticed the physical break has helped us concentrate better in class! Plus we love the fresh air!
First week in Year 6
Year 6 have been hard at work on their first week back! They have been looking at a new traditional tale and exploring the language. Also, they have been consolidating their place value understanding and looking at the Creation story. In science, we have began work on classification whilst in Topic we have begun looking at the Tudors. We have completed out first lesson on Tag Rugby and we have started looking at the work of Gustav Klimt. What a busy first week back! But the children have been marvellous and worked so hard! Well done Year 6!
