Google Classroom

During a partial or full school closure, we remain committed to ensuring the very best outcomes for our children. We wish to work with you to extend the provision given to your child by providing more direct teacher input. To support you with this, we have invested in Google Classroom.

Google Classroom is an educational tool, which will be used strictly for educational purposes. Each class has a page, which includes work for pupils to complete at home, links to helpful websites and educational videos to enhance our provision. It also provides a platform for pupils to keep in touch with their teacher, which is so important whilst children are working remotely.

Children must sign into their RM Unify account with their email address and password to access Google Classroom.

Collect Worship

Each class will participate in a whole school or class assembly each week.

Everyday, each morning session will begin with a prayer.

This expectation will be the same for children both in school and out of school.

Timetable

Your class teacher will share with you a copy of the remote learning timetable. This will act as a guide as to how learning will take place throughout the week. Parents should not feel that they have to stick to it rigidly but use it as a guide as to how to plan your child's learning over the day or week.

If you have any worries or questions about your child's remote timetable, please speak with the class teacher.

Teaching and Learning

To support the provision of teaching and learning remotely, teachers have access to the school's Remote Learning Framework which details the principles of effective teaching and learning to engage all pupils.

Attendance

Pupils will be expected to ‘attend’ the Google Meet sessions as agreed with the class teacher. Each class follows the routine below:

1. Log in to their Google Classroom class for that session. There they will find the Google Meet link in the top banner or in the class stream. Click on the link.
2. The teacher and/or TA will record a register of every pupil who is present on Google Meet.

If a pupil does not ‘attend’ and register in the lesson, a phone call will be made to support parents/carers and pupils in ensuring their child is able to access lessons to ensure they don’t fall behind with their learning during this remote period.

Behaviour

We still expect high standards of behaviour when pupils are working remotely and accessing the Google Meetings. Please refer to our Behaviour Policy

We will still praise and reward our pupils throughout a partial or full school closure. Please refer to our Behaviour Policy Addendum.

Online Safety

St Mary’s Primary School is committed to providing a safe environment for online learning. This commitment remains the same in the difficult circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 outbreak. During the period of Remote Home Learning our expectations of staff and pupils also remain the same, and the principles and practices of the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and Online Safety Policy, and the staff Code of Conduct for staff and pupils will continue to apply, both to existing and any new online and distance learning arrangements
introduced. Staff and pupils must review these policies and ensure that they adhere to them at all times.
